proyecto. Para que se siga leyendo con facilidad y con naturalidad. Para que no se complique demasiado. Soy una persona a la que le gustan las ideas claras, simples, pero no simplistas. Las cosas más simples de la vida son en realidad las fundamentales. Y en arquitectura pasa esto también. Esta capacidad de síntesis me atrae mucho en la arquitectura, también en la música y en el arte. Que sea intensa y clara. Al mismo tiempo, intensidad y simplicidad, que estén a la par, esto es fundamental. Por otro lado, la idea no trae consigo un lenguaje. Se puede vestir de muchos modos, puede desarrollarse en muchas direcciones. Pero su fuerza, su ADN, estará siempre reconocible. Creo en la síntesis, la fuerza y la claridad de la idea. ¿Se debe a esa síntesis y la claridad de la idea a que tus memorias descriptivas sean tan breves? Deseo hacer sinopsis permanente, y ver en cada caso, qué elementos se revelan importantes. No deben ser muchos, porque si son muchos todo se complica y las ideas se diluyen en una nebulosa. En cada proyecto se produce un discurso, porque en cada proyecto tienes algo que decir. Y tiene que ser claro, y de fácil comprensión por parte de los usuarios. Siento atracción y gran interés por la comunicación fácil. Me gusta comunicar, hacerme entender, escuchar a gente y comprenderlos con facilidad. No intento complicar los pensamientos, ni las relaciones, sino que busco las cosas esenciales. Pienso que esa idea de juntar intensidad y simplicidad es fuerte y atractiva. ¿Qué palabras/ideas asociarías al conjunto de obras que conforman esta monografía? Podríamos asociarlas con la idea de intemporal. Creo que los valores permanentes de la arquitectura son los que realmente importan. La arquitectura debe ser contemporánea pero no debe estar sujeta a modas, debe creer en los valores fundamentales de la arquitectura: la escala, la proporción, la luz, la sombra, la materialidad, la tectónica, la eficacia, la eficiencia energética obviamente. Creo que por utilizar estos valores al proyectar tengo muy buena relación con mis obras y cuando las visito, pasados 10/15 años, no pienso en cambiar nada, me agradan como son y creo que es así porque fueron pensadas como algo intemporal. Me concentro en los nuevos trabajos para introducir cambios. INTEMPORAL

And the same goes for architecture. This ability to synthesise is what attracts me to architecture, and also to music and art. That it should be intense and clear. At the same time, intensity and simplicity, are on the same level, which is fundamental. On the other hand, the idea has no language. It can be clothed in many ways, it can develop in many directions. But its strength, its DNA, will always be recognisable. I believe in the synthesis, the strength and the clarity of the idea. Is it because of this synthesis and clarity of thought that your descriptive memoirs are so short? I want to make a permanent synopsis and see which elements are important in each case. There should not be too many, because if there are too many, it becomes complex and the ideas get lost in a fog. In every project you produce a speech, because in every project you have something to say. And it has to be clear and easy for users to understand. I am attracted to and very interested in simple communication. I like to communicate, make myself understood, listen to people and understand them easily. I don’t try to complicate thoughts or relationships, but I look for the essentials. I think this idea of combining intensity and simplicity is strong and attractive. What words/ideas would you associate with the body of work that makes up this monograph? We could associate it with the idea of timelessness. I believe that the enduring values of architecture are the ones that really matter. Architecture should be contemporary, but it should not be subject to fashions, it should believe in the fundamental values of architecture: scale, proportion, light, shadow, materiality, tectonics, efficiency, energy efficiency, of course. I think that because I use these values when designing, I have a very good relationship with my works, and when I visit them after 10 or 15 years, I don’t think about changing anything, I like them as they are, and I think that’s because they were conceived as something timeless. I concentrate on new works to introduce changes. TIMELESS
